We strive to host concerts live, in-person this year with stringent safety measures in place.

Adult – $50
Member – $40
Student – $10 (ID verification at door)

2021-2022 CONCERT SEASON

Like all arts organizations, we are planning our concerts with the health and safety of our patrons and musicians in mind, and continue to organize our events with the flexibility of online & in-person capacity. Rest assured, we will do everything we can to make it a safe experience.

To attend our concerts, we will require proof of full vaccination (final dose received at least 14 days prior to the event), or a negative COVID-19 test result from an approved testing provider taken within 48 hours before the concert. All musicians will be fully vaccinated. Masks will also be required.

We have 4 fantastic concerts this season, starting in November. In addition, we are also presenting our concert that was postponed from last season. This will be held on October 3rd. If you have a 2020/2021 season pass, this concert is included in that.

As you have come to know, we are resilient and inventive. We will do whatever we can to bring you high-quality performances, whether in-person, or per Livestream, or both!

A summary of our season to come:

We will start on Sunday, October 3, 2021, with a concert that was supposed to happen in May. Edmonton viola da gamba players will present a concert of fantastic English consort music for 2, 3, and 4 violas da gamba. Can you believe we have 4 fantastic viol players in Edmonton?!

On Sunday, November 7, at 3 PM, we will play a concert that was originally planned for last January but had been replaced with an alternate program at the time. Jean Philippe Rameau’s stunning Pièces de clavecin en concerts. This is a spectacular series of pieces for harpsichord, violin, and viola da gamba that are a true treasure, and never before performed in Edmonton!

Saturday, December 11, 2021, we will feature 4 local string players and harpsichord with a very festive and uplifting program.

Saturday, February 26, 2022, we have another all-local performance, featuring unique music for soprano, obligato instrument, and continuo.

The last concert in our series is on Saturday, May 7, 2022. We will host 2 guest superstars, alongside our local superstars. It promises to be yet another spectacular and unforgettable concert.

This evening we will bring you some of the finest English viol consort music, taking you to the court of Charles I in the early 17th century with an ensemble of local gamba players.

Pièces de clavecin en concerts

The complete Pièces de Clavecin en Concerts is the sole chamber music work by the great composer Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764). The Concerts are full-fledged trios where the three instruments play roles of equal importance. For the first time in the history of music, the bass does not double the keyboard player’s left hand, but, covering a range of nearly four octaves, has an independent, virtuosic role, of the kind that would appear much later, in Schubert trios!

Never before performed in their entirety in Edmonton, this is a rare opportunity to hear these magnificent pieces on period instruments.

The final concert of our season will be an absolutely delightful program of French baroque music for a number of combinations of 1 and 2 violins, cello, viola da gamba, and harpsichord, including works by Clérambault, Couperin, Rebel, Corrette, Leclair, Barrière, and de la Guerre. A concert certain to lift your spirits!

We will feature musicians who have their roots in Edmonton, or are current Edmontonians. Baroque violinist Paul Luchkow grew up in Edmonton but has made Victoria, BC his home. Harpsichordist Christopher Bagan was also raised in Edmonton and is now residing in Toronto. Violinist Laura Veeze and Josephine van Lier (viola da gamba and baroque cello) both grew up in the Netherlands and are happily making their living as musicians in Edmonton.

COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Plan

The safety of our audiences, members, and performers is of the utmost importance to Early Music Alberta. In order to go forth with our events, we have many steps in place to ensure safety and comfort for everyone.

Online ticket purchase only
Proof of full vaccination (final dose received at least 14 days prior to the event).
- Valid electronic or paper copies will be accepted. Albertans can provide their immunization records through the MyHealthRecords app. Other Provincial, Territorial, or Federal equivalents records will also be accepted. Please note that we may require valid photo identification as well. Your personal health records will not be scanned, saved, or shared.
  We ask that if you are experiencing any COVID-19 or flu symptoms, do not come to the concert.
Performers will be fully vaccinated and appropriately distanced from the audience
Masks will be mandatory
Large venue to ensure social distancing

No intermission
No post-concert reception
